Laser Plastic Cutting ExamplesOur laser cutting and drilling capabilities in plastics and polymer substrates allow customers to select from a wide variety of materials. The laser edge-cut quality spectrum runs from a smooth, fire-polished edge with no discoloration to an edge with minimal striations, some charring and discoloration depending on the composition.

Plastic ablation with our femto-second laser is recommended for those sensitive applications where charring or discoloration cannot be tolerated.

Laser cutting and drilling offers many advantages including intricate cut details to close tolerances not achievable with other processes, the ability to change component designs quickly due to CNC programming flexibility, little to no hard tooling and minimal part variation due to the small heat affected zone introduced by the laser. Laser-cut plastics often have cut edges that do not require further processing, thus saving both money and time.

We process many different applications in the medical, aerospace and industrial fields, including intricate gasket cutting to close tolerances, precision hole drilling in tubes and catheters, contour cutting or trimming on electrical substrates, diaphragm cutting and trimming of filter material and many others. Laserage has dedicated plastic cutting systems that allow us to offer quick turnaround for your projects. Laser tolerances of +/- 0.003″ or better are routinely achieved. We specialize in small hole drilling with large depth to diameter ratios in both flat & tubular plastic products. Our capabilities are also ideal for modifying injection molded parts by adding small holes, intricate features and trim cuts.
