For applications where edge surface roughness or straightness in the singulated part are important design considerations, additional steps may be required.
Three edge types are outlined below. These edges offer specific characteristics from "as-fired edge" to our most accurate edge, the "machined flat"
As-Fired Edge:
Def: The edge of a substrate produced by mechanical punching of unfired(green) ceramic tape.
Raw ceramic edge after being stamped from green tape. Tolerances typically +/- 1.5% length and width, 10% for thickness NTL 0.0015". Edges are not straight or perpendicular.
Scribed Edge (Standard):
Most economical laser processing treatment.

Scribed Edge with Machined Flat:
Improved registration when locating from pin fixtures.
